13 June 2012 Day 6 La Somail to Homps

Plan for the morning was to go back to the Auberge Du Somail café for breakfast but they weren’t open early enough and so we ended up having breakfast on the boat – the usual fruit, cereal, toast and honey. We then walked into the village to explore, with the plan to have morning tea of croissants at the café instead.

 First stop the local shop – one of the boats on the water where we brought some supplies but also some souvenirs.

The highlight of the village was the Librarie Ancienne Bbibliotheque where there was an amazing collection of books all carefully protected in plastic, for sale. A few interesting purchases were made.

On the way back over the bridge to the restaurant for our coffee and croissants we spotted some Coypus in the canal

Having finished exploring the small but beautiful village we headed back to the boat to continue on along the canal to Homps, stopping off midway for lunch on the top of the boat in the sun. We had planned to start the day by cycling through some of the villages but it was still very windy, we could see now why there were so many wind turbines in the area

The wind had abated by lunch time so some of us decided to cycle along the towpath to our destination at Homps. An enjoyable ride stopping off to help with the locks along the way.

Homps is not very large but does have a le Boat base where we could tie up in the port with access to power and water – no water rationing in the showers – yippee.

We found a supermarket nearby so bought sausages to cook on the newly replaced BBQ to have with some salad. Delicious dinner on the deck on the boat, washing it down with even more delicious local wine.

Decision time then – plans for tomorrow and the rest of the time
