11 July More Singapore and Sentosa

This morning we experienced our first drop of rain since the start of our tripping. It was more than a drop too. At one stage we couldn’t see across to the oil rig. Looking out at it whilst eating breakfast....

By the time we were ready to head out it had started to fine up and warm up.

We decided to go to Sentosa Island and decided we would like to go across on the cable car but hadn’t realised that the best place to go across from was Mt Faber. Fortunately the cab driver put us right and took us up Mt Faber instead of dropping us off at the Harbour Town where we had originally asked to be dropped of. We discovered interesting walks up Mt Faber so before going across to Sentosa in the cable car we headed off on the walks called the Southern Ridges Walks.

The Southern Ridges comprises of 10km of green open spaces that connect Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Hort Park, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve, in fact it even continues almost all the way along to where the Yacht club is. Needless to say in this humidity we didn’t walk the full distance. The walk is promoted as being one of the best spots to catch panoramic views of the city, harbour and the southern islands.

We started off with the Mt Faber Park walk then onto the Henderson Waves

Henderson Waves stands 36 m above Henderson Road and is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. It has a distinctive wave-like structure consisting of a series of undulating curved ribs made of timber and steel

The next part of the trail took us on the 1.3 km elevated metal Forest Walk way high above the jungle

Then onto the Anderson Arch

Here we decided it was time to turn back and return to the Jewel Box where the cable cars leave from

On arrival at Sentosa Insland we stopped off for a bit to eat before venturing out onto the island.

Seeing as we had done a fair bit of walking in the morning we decided to hop on one of the free buses to explore the island.

We transferred from the bus to the beach tram when we reached the beach

And we did walk a little bit along the beach when we discovered a huge queue waiting for the beach tram along the second section of the beach

We just had to go walk across the swing bridge and onto the structure purported to be the southern most point of continental Asia

And I just had to have a Movenpick ice cream - $5 for a tiny tub!!!! Yes things are expensive here.

When we got back to the yacht club we discovered there was a wedding happening there.

Where else would the ceremony take place when getting married at a yacht club…..

After another scrumptious dinner prepared by Neva on the boat, Miles took us for a tour of the town.

He took us past the “black and white” bungalows originally built for the officers of the British army and now apparently favoured by the expats. He took us all through the town pointing out various different sites of interest, around past Raffles Hotel, through China Town, little India….. and also past the huge Fullerton Hotel where he stayed when they first arrived, which was apparently originally built to be used as a Post Office.

We ended our day back at the mess at the yacht club for another few rum and coke night caps
